JOLI
QUENTIN KANSIL
The
inventor of some 36 games, Joli Quentin Kansil, also known as Prince Joli
Kansil, has lived in Hawaii 36 years and has also been a teacher, professor,
crossword puzzle constructor, and writer. A champion in Backgammon in
its early days of resurgence in the 1970s, JQK is the author of two books
on the game and was the Backgammon columnist for GAMES Magazine for many
years. He is the Editor of The Official Rules of Card Games, currently
published by the U. S. Playing Card Company (338 pages).
It
is rare for a game inventor to also be a very proficient game player,
but Joli Quentin Kansil has achieved this distinction, being an expert
in Bridge, Backgammon, Bridgette, Scrabble, and many other games. The
late great games expert Oswald Jacoby once called JQK "The best combination
game inventor/game player in the world."
A
world traveler, JQK has visited over 200 countries, including such faraway
places as Antarctica, Mongolia, Greenland, and Pitcairn Island. He has
been in every country of the Western Hemisphere, and has made some 70
trips to Asia. His daughter Melanie Quintana Kansil is a graduate of Harvard
University, and his son Zane Quincy Kansil is in the fourth grade.
